Physical Education is a subject which can create many benefits to one’s health and lifestyle well beyond their years in the classroom setting. It is my hope that I will be able to pass on the knowledge and benefits which will suit my students well. I want my students to succeed in all aspects of their life, from the physical, mental and emotional realms, and I believe this can be accomplished through this course I teach in Physical Education. I have high expectations of myself to be able to best convey my philosophy and create a spark in my students where they enjoy learning these various sports and to be able to find a love in at least one of them. As a parent, it is my goal to include you in your students progress because it is critical to their overall success if they involve you in it. I hope you and your child will reap the rewards of learning about a lifestyle that is healthy for all.

Physical Education Class Policy:
Rules:
• Respect yourself, others and the equipment
• Be positive
• Be punctual
• Honesty is the best policy
• Keep hands and feet to yourself
• Cooperate
• No crude of foul language
• Be active
• Have fun- Work Hard- Learn
Consequences:
Students who fail to follow the class rules will be dealt with as follows:
1. Student Conference (in class or by appointment)
2. Detention Assigned
3. Referral to Office to meet with Assistant Principal
4. Parent Conference
5. If a second conference is necessary, The Vice Principal of Supervision will be involved and I may request that the student be removed from my class.
When the students follow the rules, learning can start on time, learning can be enriched, and learning can be complete. When Students follow the classroom rules, the teacher is a much nicer person.
Dress:
Students must dress out daily in appropriate attire:
• Athletic shoes, closed toes. (NO OPEN TOED SHOES- OR FLIP FLOPS)
• P.E. Logo T-Shirt (purchased for $8 from the Financial Office)
• P.E. Logo Shorts (purchased for $7 from the Financial Office)
• Name clearly written on the front of T-Shirt and Shorts.
• White athletic socks.
• Solid Color Sweatshirt/Sweatpants may be worn OVER P.E. clothes in cold weather.
• Clothes are clean with no holes or inappropriate markings.
• No jackets
• No jewelry.
• No hats (unless for religious reasons, for which a parent note is needed).
Clean Loan Clothes are available for those who forget their P.E. uniforms, but are available on a limited basis and are a first come-first serve basis.
Each student is allowed 5 non-dress suit days, where if they forget to bring their P.E. uniform it will not affect their grade. After the 5th time, points will be deducted from their grade. If the student continues to forget their P.E. uniform, a phone call home to their parents will ensue. Each student will get 1 point per day for dressing out in their own P.E. uniform.
Attendance/Participation:
Just like any other class, attendance and participation is vital to the success of each student. Especially since P.E. is a class where you are physically active, if you can’t participate, you are going to miss out on points. Excessive absences will directly affect your grade. A phone call may be called home if a student is truant or has excessive absences. Also, you cannot learn and grow as a student if you aren’t in class. Any student having difficulty attending class or participating in class activities on a regular basis will not perform well academically and will lack the knowledge of a variety of physical skills and cognitive concepts that lead to a healthy, active lifestyle. If the student is unable to participate for any reason, a parent note is necessary and the student will need to write a journal entry during class discussing what is taught during that particular lesson. Attendence is worth 2 points per day. Particpation is worth 3 points per day, with the breakdown as follows:
3 points- Full participation the whole class period
2 points- Participation for most of the class period
1 points- Participation for some of the class period.
0 points- Not participating for any of the class period.
Make-up Work Policy:
All students who miss class due to sickness/injury/family emergency are subject to the opportunity to make up missed work/points. A parent note is needed. Depending on what the unit we are in, will determine what type of make up work is acceptable. Make up work can include, but is not limited to:
• Doing a variety of exercises at your house and having a parent/guardian sign the paper stating you did it.
• Watching the sport on television and writing a paper about skills you saw performed that have been discussed in class.
• Reading the newspaper and finding an article which pertains to the sport and writing a summary on it.
